Font - Posted by u/Oncewasaworker 23 hours ago She must go on leave and I won't hear any excuses! M OC So this happened a few years ago. I was a union delegate at a large firm. We had a manager called Karen (I've written about her before on this subreddit) who was appointed to her role by a director of the company. Let's call the director her "uncle". Karen wasn't very clever. She hadn't finished high school and previously worked as a receptionist. She once told me 40 was half of 100.

Font - Karen is struggling in her job and basically does nothing. Her desk is a mess of paperwork. She also looks after all the small departments like records, security, stores etc. If anyone takes on Karen, the director steps in and Karen gets a get out of jail card. There were a few occasions when Karen got yelled at by a manger for making costly mistakes and Karen was put on stress leave and manager got a warning.

Font - One of paralegals Sally from records comes to me to say she thinks Shes in trouble. Sally recently had six weeks leave. She was forced on leave due to having too much annual leave. Once you have more than six weeks you are forced to go on leave until you have no more than two weeks. Sally tells me that HR and Karen enforced her on leave and she submitted a paper leave form the same day Karen was put on stress leave. Sally went on leave came back the same day as Karen. Sally's leave wasn't

Font - While Karen was away they replaced her with Paula who found Karen hadn't really any work for 7 months. I found Paula and asked casually about what happened. She told me on day one she threw all the paperwork out and started over again.

Font - So I attended a meeting with Sally, Karen and HR knowing there isn't a record of Sally's leave. Karen starts the meeting on a verbal rampage about not doing as she told Sally to do. Sally needs to go on leave now or else and she doesn't want to hear excuses. I interject at this point and point out to HR that Karen behavior is unacceptable, but we agree (que MC) as Sally has over 8 weeks leave now, she will go on leave effective tomorrow. Sally submits a leave form to Karen, and we leave t

Font - +2. 1 day ago So, Sally gets 4 extra weeks of vacation for free, not a bad deal for her. Too bad that someone does not go above Karen's "uncle" and let them know what a waste of space Karen is and how she really isn't doing her job, where it is clear that she is clueless. Font - MNConcerto 22 hr. ago Friend went out on maternity leave. It wasn't deducted from her bank. She reminded both her supervisor and payroll multiple times but it was never corrected. 2 years later she gets pregnant again, this time she has an even bigger bank to use for her leave. She figured by this point she is no longer liable as she notified them multiple time. Font - habershamglam 1.22 hr. ago Way back in the 1990's I took a week's vacation and was paid for 400 hours instead of 40. I immediately went to the payroll department to have it corrected. She remarked that if I hadn't said anything then it probably wouldn't have been caught until W-2s were issued. PTO was tracked in a ledger, and it had been recorded there correctly. Everyone's W-2 was double checked against their hourly rate/ salary and an extra 9 weeks of pay would have "probably" flagged m

Font - revloc_ttam 20 hr. ago I had a similar situation as Sally. I worked for a large aerospace company with facilities all over the world. My facility had loaned me out to another facility which needed help with a project I was qualified to support. When I showed up at the new facility I told them I was planning a 3 week vacation in a few months. I worked the project and then went on my vacation letting them know I was going on vacation. When I got back I was sent back to my original facility.

Font - Xraylasers 23 hr. ago Nepotism is the only reason Karen isn't making min wage at a Wendy's. Reply Share Vote cbelt3 +3.21 hr. ago The implication here is not nepotism..... In the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: "he's not really my uncle" "They never are, dear " Vote Reply Share

Font - zoomies379 It's useless middle managers like Karen that want people 'back in the office'. When people are at home, being just as productive as they were, the UNproductive middle managers are in plain sight 20 hr. ago Vote Reply Share

Font - tkthompson0000 · 21 hr. ago Why don't these "uncles" just give them cash for making coffee or something. I'd rather know she is there but is not responsible for anything (maybe lunch if she could make a phone call) because she is advantaged. At least it is out there and no one has any expectations. I guess it all comes down to power and control. ↑ Vote Reply Share
